The First Annual Literacy Quest Charity Book Drive

The Daily Prophet is primarily seeking donations of used books for the benefit of the soldiers. Fans are asked to send used books - paperbacks if possible - that are appropriate, unoffensive, politically neutral, and generally fun to read and/or informative. Really, anything's fine, we just want to stick to the rule of not offending anyone.

We would also like to encourage you to include letters of support for the soldiers, which will be forwarded to units along with the care packages. The soldiers really appreciate these letters, and from what we've heard from the various units in Iraq and Afghanistan, they usually post the letters they receive on what they call "Support Walls" - they post the letters for everyone to read whenever they're having a bad day. The kind words, most often written to them by young school children, help to boost morale and help remind the soldiers of home.

Because all of this will be quite costly to ship, we would also like to encourage those who are able to include a few dollars with their books, to help off-set the cost of shipment. We don't need a lot, just enough to help so we don't break the bank. If you are collecting books in your neighborhood, you might ask for spare change along with each book donated - fifty cents here and there will help you to ship those books to us here at Daily Prophet headquarters.

Apart from books and letters, we're also seeking donations from corporate sponsors. These donations can include anything from books to CDs, DVDs to computer games, even packaged snack foods. The Daily Prophet is a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, so all corporate donations are fully tax deductable.
