Welcome to Meg's Megs! A
guide on how to use your webspace effectively through design, HTML, and common
sense.
Introduction |
| I've been a webmistress for about two years now, and in that time I was
quite fortunate to have two siblings who were well-versed in HTML, and were
both quite well known on the Internet for their skills. (Until recently,
one of my siblings was quite well renowned in the Microsoft Flight Simulator
arena; he has been heralded as the best simulation aircraft manufacturer
in the world. He retired about a year ago.) Thanks to sisterly charm, I got
HTML tutoring for free. If it hadn't been for that tutoring, I know the Daily
Prophet would not be as successful as it is today.
Over these past two years, I've come in contact with dozens of young people
trying to start websites of their own. Many of them ask me for tips on how
to get started, but I'm never quite sure how to answer them. To me, there
isn't just one simple answer to making a great website. It's a combination
of three vital elements that make for a good website; Compatibility, Design,
and Construction. One element cannot survive without the other two. I've
tried to convey this over IM conversation, and I can't quite get it right.
I decided it was time to bite the bullet and create an online textbook. Hence
the creation of Meg's Megs. |

| My hope in writing this online tutorial will be to show you
the ease of creating websites. It's really easy once you get the hang of
it. It's only when a webmaster tries to forget one of those three elements
that it becomes difficult.
I'll try to keep this tutorial as brief as possible while still keeping all
the vital elements to help you fully understand what you can do with your
website. The possibilities are endless, but hopefully this tutorial won't
be. :)
Start exploring. I would advise that you start from the top of that list
to the left and work your way down. But, if you already have the hang of
certain aspects, by all means, skip ahead to what you need to know. This
is here for you so you can improve your website. It won't cost a thing, just
a little time. After all, what have you got to lose? Nothing, but you have
everything to gain.
